#Licenses

ASCILINE uses a split licensing model:

Part License
Core engine and streaming server GNU AGPL v3 or later
Client SDK and web decoders (asciline-player, codec.js) MIT

In practice: you can embed the player and decoders in your own site under the permissive MIT terms. If you run a modified version of the engine or server as a network service, the AGPL applies to those modifications. This page is a summary, not legal advice; the license texts in the repository are what count.

#Contributing

Read CONTRIBUTING.md before opening a pull request. The most important rule: the format layer of the codec (tag numbers, header layout, DCT constants and tables) must stay bit-identical across codec.py and both codec.js copies, and any change to it needs a runnable encode/decode vector test. The usage layer (buffering, seek UI) is allowed to differ on purpose.
